Summary
For our five-year anniversary, the message looked to Hebrews 11 and the story of Abraham and Sarah, who obeyed and stepped out even though they didn’t know where they were going, trusting that the God who made the promise was faithful. It traced how God often works over years through small, easy-to-miss moments in a person’s life, quietly shaping and preparing them long before anything visible comes of it. The challenge was that what God calls us to do often feels impossible, yet inevitable, and it rarely happens through one person alone — it happens through a unified group of people who each choose their own next step of obedience.
Main focus
What feels impossible is inevitable when a unified group of people reach for it together, believing God is faithful to what He’s promised.
Ice-breaker · Kick It Off With Something Fun
Think back over your life — what’s a small, almost forgettable moment (a conversation, an invitation, a decision) that turned out to shape where you are today?
Take it deeper
- Read Hebrews 11:8-10. Abraham “obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going,” and lived in tents his whole life, still waiting on the promise. Has there been a time God asked you to take a step forward without giving you the full picture of where it would lead? What was that like?
- The message talked about small, quiet moments over years that God can use to shape a person’s direction — long before it’s obvious what they’re for. Can you identify a moment like that in your own story? What did you understand about it only in hindsight?
- Read Hebrews 11:11. Sarah “was enabled to bear children because she considered Him faithful who made the promise.” What’s a promise or a hope you’re currently waiting on where you need to choose to consider God faithful, even without seeing the outcome yet?
- The phrase “impossible but inevitable” was used to describe something only God could bring about. Is there something in your own life right now that feels impossible but that you sense, deep down, God is going to bring about? What makes you believe that?
- It was said that this kind of thing rarely happens through one person — it happens through a unified group of people who each say their own yes. Where do you sense God inviting you to take a next step: in leadership, in generosity, or in inviting someone toward faith? Which of those feels most uncomfortable to lean into right now, and why?
- It was said that the greatest danger for any church is a group of people who become so inward-focused that it becomes just about them. Who is one person in your life who doesn’t know Jesus yet, and what’s one simple way you could show them care this week?
