Baptism

Going public with your faith.

Baptism is one of the most meaningful moments in a follower of Jesus' life, and one of our favorite things to celebrate as a church. If you've decided to follow Jesus, we'd love to help you take this step.

What it means

An outward picture of an inward change.

At Nuvo, we believe baptism is symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Going under the water pictures being buried with Him; coming up out of the water pictures the new life He gives.

Baptism doesn't make you a Christian. Salvation is God's gift, received by grace through faith in Jesus. After someone has accepted Jesus as Savior, baptism is a public declaration of their new life in Christ and a step of obedience, following Jesus' own example.

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Romans 6:4 (NIV)

How it works

Four simple steps.

  1. 1

    Let us know

Fill out a short form so we know you're interested. It takes about two minutes.

  2. 2

    Talk it through

Someone from our team will reach out to set up a short Zoom call. We'll hear your story, walk you through what baptism looks like at Nuvo, and answer any questions.

  3. 3

    Share your story

We'll film a short video of your story that we share with the church right before you're baptized. Don't worry, we'll guide you through it.

  4. 4

    Baptism Sunday

Pick a Sunday that works for you and invite your family and friends. We'll celebrate with you during the 10am service.

Baptism stories

Every story is worth celebrating.

Before each baptism, we share a short video of that person's story. Here are a few of them.

Questions

Good questions to ask.

Want to go deeper? Read What Happens When You Get Baptized? from Pastor Patrick.

Who can be baptized?

Anyone who has personally decided to trust and follow Jesus. You don't need a dramatic story or a perfect life, just an honest desire to follow Him. Kids and students who have made that decision can be baptized too; we'll include a parent in the conversation.

I was baptized as a baby. Should I be baptized again?

Many people were baptized as infants by parents who loved them and wanted to raise them in faith. At Nuvo, baptism is a step you take after choosing to follow Jesus for yourself. If that's where you are, we'd love to talk it through with you.

Does baptism save me?

No. Salvation is God's gift, received by grace through faith in Jesus. Baptism is a public declaration of that faith and a step of obedience, following Jesus' example.

What if I'm not sure I'm ready?

That's okay. Ask questions, take your time, and talk with someone on our team. Baptism should reflect a real decision, never pressure.

Can my family and friends come?

Yes, please invite them! Baptisms happen during a Sunday service at 10am, and you'll choose the Sunday that works best for the people you want there.

What should I wear or bring?

We'll walk you through everything during your conversation with our team, so there are no surprises on the day.
