There are a lot of people offering advice about how to build a good life. Some of it is genuinely helpful. You can find excellent guidance on finances, health, relationships, productivity, and just about anything else you can imagine. But underneath all that advice is a bigger question we don’t always stop to ask: What kind of person am I becoming while I’m building the life I want?
At Nuvo, we have a value that sounds simple: Jesus Is Better. We believe following the person of Jesus and the way of Jesus is the best way to live. That’s not just a statement about what happens after we die. It’s a conviction about what makes life meaningful right now, in the middle of work, relationships, decisions, disappointments, and ordinary Tuesday afternoons.
Jesus Offers More Than Good Advice
In John 10:10, Jesus says He came so people could have life to the full. I don’t think He was promising an easy life or unlimited success. Read the Gospels and you’ll discover that following Him can be challenging. He calls people to forgive when they’d rather retaliate, to serve when they’d rather be noticed, and to give when they’d rather hold on tightly. His way often runs directly against our instincts.
But consider what those teachings produce. A person who practices forgiveness doesn’t have to spend their entire life controlled by bitterness. Someone who learns generosity can enjoy what they have without being owned by it. A person who serves others begins discovering meaning beyond personal achievement. These aren’t simply religious rules. They’re invitations into a different way of being human.
Start With the Person, Not the Performance
One mistake Christians sometimes make is reducing faith to a checklist. Read your Bible, attend church, avoid the wrong things, and try to be nice. Those practices can matter, but the center of Christianity is Jesus Himself. The Gospels show us someone who welcomes outsiders, confronts hypocrisy, cares for people who are suffering, and tells the truth even when it’s costly. He also gives His life for people who could never earn their way back to God.
That’s why we believe salvation is God’s gift, received by grace through faith in Jesus. We’re not trying to become impressive enough for God to accept us. We’re responding to what Jesus has already done. And as we learn to trust Him, we begin allowing His example and teachings to reshape our priorities. That’s a lifelong process, not a weekend project.
Follow Him Into Ordinary Life
The best way to discover whether the way of Jesus is worth following is to take His words seriously enough to practice them. When you’re frustrated, try responding with patience. When you have the opportunity to help someone who can’t repay you, take it. When you realize you’ve been wrong, own it. When you’re afraid, pray honestly rather than pretending you’re fine.
You don’t have to have every question answered before you begin exploring Jesus. At Nuvo, we want people to have space to investigate and experience what following Him means. Start where you are. Bring your questions. Pay attention to what changes as you begin building your life around Him.
Putting This Into Practice
1Read one Gospel story slowly.
Start with Mark 2 or Luke 15. Ask what Jesus notices, how He treats people, and what His actions reveal about God. Write down one thing that surprises you.
2Practice one teaching.
Choose forgiveness, generosity, honesty, or serving and apply it in one specific situation this week. Notice what makes it difficult and what it changes.
3Talk honestly with someone.
Ask a friend who follows Jesus what difference that relationship has made in their everyday life. If you’re skeptical, bring the questions you actually have.
